DAYDREAMING

I thought about the beach today.

with eyes closed I hear the surf
rhythmic, swishing
as it rolls into white foam
swirling imprints
upon the sand

blended children's voices
then a lonely gull
sounds that come
then fade away
carried off by ocean breezes.

salty air warms my face
toes burrow in cool sand
a whisper of cotton
pulled up
across the shoulders

the show is now more distant
the shore forgotten
upstaged
by the intensity and beauty
at the horizon

yes, I thought about the beach today

The reality is snow still covers everything, the air is frigid, and the nights much too long.  I saw this picture today and was whisked away to a wonderful late summer afternoon at the beach.  We enjoy the quieter and less crowded late day beach time, stay until sunset, then pack up all the visiting grandchildren and head home for take-out and s'mores.  Soon...
